RB Formally Launches "Get Ready, Get Safe" National Partnership with Global Charity Partner Save the Children
As part of RB's global commitment to the international charity Save the Children, the global health and hygiene company known for popular brands such as Mucinex® and Lysol® formally launched its "Get Ready, Get Safe" partnership and held its 5th annual U.S. Charity Day on September 8, 2016. Held during National Preparedness Month, the company's largest one-day fundraising effort netted nearly $1M from donations and a company match to benefit Save the Children programs.
RB (formerly known as Reckitt Benckiser) has been a corporate partner of Save the Children since 2003. Since then, the company has raised over $35 million that has helped more than 1.5 million children around the world. As a long-time partner of Save the Children, RB's global initiatives worldwide support "Save a Child Every Minute," a joint program created to eliminate child mortality related to poor sanitation and hygiene. In the United States, funds raised go specifically to support the "Get Ready, Get Safe" program designed to help communities prepare to protect and care for its most vulnerable populations such as low income families. The program provides training and easy-to-use tools for families, schools and communities and ensures emergency resources are in place before crisis strikes. RB employee volunteers are trained to work with community groups at "Prep Rallies," where children and adults get tips for staying safe in disasters.
"Helping Save the Children, and through them children and families, is a rewarding part of our everyday lives here at RB," said Lynn Kenney, Communications Director for RB North America. "Many of our employees and their families have seen firsthand how disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and other natural disasters have affected families within their local communities. The "Get Ready, Get Safe" program enables our employees to join forces with Save the Children and make a difference by helping local communities, as well as their own families, become better prepared to handle future crises."
As part of Charity Day activities, held at Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, NJ, employees and local RB partners joined together to raise money by participating in a round of golf and other activities around the resort, and competing for prizes in both live and silent auctions.
"The unwavering commitment RB has shown over the years has allowed Save the Children to support and secure the lives of millions of children and families in the United States and around the world," said Sarah Thompson, Save the Children's Associate Director of Community Preparedness. "RB has some of the most dedicated employees, partners and vendors working to support our Save the Children family, and it's exciting to see their enthusiasm for helping people in their communities and around the globe."
For nearly 100 years, Save the Children has been on the front lines of emergency and humanitarian responses around the world. During disasters such as Hurricane Sandy and, most recently, the devastating flooding in Louisiana and Mississippi, Save the Children was there to provide meals, supplies and child-friendly spaces, along with ongoing support to address emotional recovery and future preparedness.
RB employees across the country will be supporting the "Get Ready, Get Safe" partnership by going out to their local communities to offer disaster preparedness training developed by Save the Children for schools and other organizations.
